Noriko Akita

Noriko Akita is a CNRS invited researcher for a year at UMR AUSser (May 2022-May 2023) .

Noriko Akita is a planner and landscape designer. Doctor of Engineering (The University of Tokyo, 2004), she is Professor at the Graduate School of Horticulture, Department of Environmental Science and Landscape Architecture of Chiba University (Japan).

Board member of the Japanese Institute of Landscape Architecture (2017-2021) and an academic director of the City Planning Institute of Japan (2021-present), she is also member of the advisory committee of the Japanese Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications and various municipalities.

Author of several books and articles, including the contribution « How Urban Agriculture Can Contribute to Green Infrastructure in Japanese Cities » (in Urban Services to Ecosystems-Green Infrastructure Benefits from the Landscape to the Urban Scale, Springer 2021), she has worked extensively in both research and practice. Key words in her research are green space management, land use control, harmonizing the natural environment with development, urban agriculture, green infrastructure and community resilience.

Noriko Akita has worked with local residents for over a decade on community reconstruction following the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake. She is also a member of the design review committee for the national Fukushima Memorial Park after the nuclear accident, and involved in disaster recovery and watershed flood control policy in Japan.
